I create work as a memoir through visual symbolism allowing me to give voice to thoughts and emotions that dwell inside. Relationships, fleeting moments of significance, the small sensory subtleties of memory, cherished objects that I have attached meaning to, and my ever changing state mentally and physically all inform my sense of self, where I came from, and where I am going.
On one hand, I am visually emphasizing the extremes of life through accumulation, vivid color, bold markings and textures; visually communicating the nuances of life through delicate line quality, a soft color palette, and calm and repetitive subjects to indicate meditation and the passage of time. On the other hand, I am balancing the extremes by visually communicating the nuances of life through delicate line quality, a soft color palette, and calm and repetitive subjects to indicate meditation and the passage of time.
My hope is that as I revisit these parts of my life I am able to reflect on and release negative fragments that have a hold on me and cherish the positive.
